This is not really a fall book, but we have been reading personal narratives for book reports. Montezuma 4th graders read “Thunder Cake” this afternoon. The book is a narrative about a little girl that is afraid of storms so her grandma has her make a cake to keep her mind off of the storm as it approaches. After reading and discussing the story, we joined Mrs. Z in her classroom and made thunder cake with a few of her students. There was a recipe at the end of the story that called for puréed tomatoes (interesting ingredient for sure). Everyone tried the cake, not everyone liked the cake. We decided you can’t really taste the tomatoes, but there was a little different taste to the cake. Thank you Mrs. Cassandra Zweygardt and class!
